We will develop and implement operational standards for investigation of racially motivated crime. This will be achieved by:

Establishing clear performance standards.

Adopting a vigorous and positive prosecution policy.

Ensuring that all appropriate race related legislation is taken into consideration.

Ensuring that crimes are allocated to officers with the appropriate level of skills and training.

Adopting a multi agency approach during the investigation process whenever practicable.

Adopting proactive evidence gathering methods to ensure where possible corroborative evidence is obtained.

Offering in appropriate cases, an element of external oversight either as independent arbitrators or as part of the accountable decision making process.

Ensuring that the police investigation is completed to the satisfaction of the victim.

A dedicated Unit who will be accountable for the quality of follow-up investigations.

Engaging black or ethnic minority officers on cases where appropriate.
